Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 August 2026
Intent Chat (“we”, “us”) provides a proactive, intent-based chat widget that website owners (“customers”) embed on their sites. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It covers two groups: customers (people with an Intent Chat account) and visitors (people browsing a customer's website where the widget runs).
What we collect
From website visitors
- Behavioral signals — pages viewed, time on page, scroll depth, clicks, and referrer, used to score buying intent.
- An anonymous ID — a random identifier stored in the visitor's browser to recognize a returning browser. It identifies a browser, not a person.
- Coarse location — an approximate city/region/country derived once from the connection IP. We do not store raw IP addresses; the address is used to derive coarse geo and then discarded.
- Email address — only if a visitor chooses to share it (in chat or via a capture popup), plus any message content they send.
From customers
- Account details — name, email, and a securely hashed password.
- Project configuration — your site settings, rules, knowledge base, and integration settings.
What we don't collect
- Raw IP addresses are never stored.
- We don't run third-party advertising trackers or sell data to advertisers.
- We don't intentionally collect special-category (sensitive) personal data.
How we use data
- To score buying intent and decide when the widget should open.
- To power the AI chat and, where connected, to notify the customer (in-app and Slack) about high-intent visitors and captured leads.
- To provide the dashboard analytics customers see (traffic, sessions, leads).
- To operate, secure, and improve the service.
Cookies & local storage
The widget stores a small anonymous identifier and session id in the visitor's browser so a returning visitor isn't treated as brand new. These are functional, not advertising, identifiers.
Service providers we share with
We use a small set of processors to run the service, each handling data only to provide their function:
- Hosting & database — cloud infrastructure providers that store account and event data.
- AI provider — message content is sent to a large-language-model provider to generate replies.
- Slack — only if a customer connects it, to deliver notifications.
We do not sell personal data.
Data retention
We keep behavioral and account data for as long as needed to provide the service and for legitimate business or legal purposes, then delete or anonymize it. Customers can request deletion of their project's data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise them, contact us. If you're a visitor on a customer's site, that customer is the controller of your data — you can also contact them.
Customers' responsibilities
Customers who install the widget are responsible for having their own privacy notice and for obtaining any consent their local laws require (for example, cookie/consent banners under GDPR or ePrivacy) before running the widget on their site.
Children
Intent Chat isn't intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the “last updated” date above.
